Trailbound Sketches is an outdoor creative production studio and global art community where adventure illustration meets environmental storytelling.

Founded by award-winning artist and filmmaker Max Romey, our mission is three-fold: sharing the magic of watercolor painting, using cinematic documentaries to advocate for a changing planet, and embarking on a generational scavenger hunt across the globe.

Currently armed with over 100 field sketchbooks and 6,000 hidden paintings left behind by his late artist grandmother, Lu, Max uses art as a time machine to retrace her footsteps, capturing how these wild landscapes have shifted over the decades.

You can join the adventure in real-time through our interactive weekly art livestreams on Twitch and YouTube, where we paint alongside the community and share field stories directly from the trail. Want a piece of the journey delivered to you? Become a part of our Looking For Lu Postcard Membership, a monthly subscription membership where supporters receive an exclusive postcard tracking Max's global quest to reconnect with Lu's legacy. Whether you are here to learn painting basics, follow our latest impact films, or support the community, Trailbound Sketches bridges the gap between creativity and conservation.
