I Love to sketch and paint Foxes
One of my favorite Alaskan “Backyard” animals is the Arctic Fox, and while I do need to travel a bit north or south to find them in the wild (which is VERY VERY HARD), sketching and painting them in their various phases and personalities brings me a lot of joy. I hope learning to sketch them brings you the same feelings, too!
Hello Friend! If you are new to Trailbound Sketches — Welcome! We are delighted to have you here. In this post I’m going to share my love for sketching and painting Arctic and Red Foxes. I feel such a kinship with these creatures and their playful bounding nature in my Alaskan backyard, we felt called to design our new logo (see above) around one of our favorite renditions of this special animal.
Trailbound Sketches is inherently inspired by the landscapes found in my home state of Alaska. Where Arctic and Red Foxes can be found in most of the habitats surrounding Anchorage. One area in particular for spotting Red Foxes is around Government Hill, between the Port of Anchorage and the surrounding neighborhoods. Arctic Foxes are not native to my immediate backyard, but if you travel south towards Portage, a place I hold dear, your odds are higher. Even higher if you stop by the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.

Lastly, IF there is enough interest and the community would enjoy it — we’ll plan a future livestream where we recreate one of my favorite large scale paintings [available as a fine art print] of the Arctic Fox (see the original above) through all it’s colorful phases. From winter to summer and back to winter. Please comment below if that is something you would love to see happen!
